Ash Green Scout Group

Ash Green Explorer Scouts 'Excelsior Explorers', are young people aged between 14 and 18 years.

Our meetings are on Monday evenings during term time, usually between 8pm and 9.30pm although we may meet earlier or later depending on where we are. Our 'official home' is at the Ash Green Youth Centre, however like most other Explorer Scouts, we rarely spend time indoors at our 'home' premises, preferring to meet with other Explorer Scouts at a wide range of nearby locations where we aim to build new relationships with other Explorer Scouts. Together, we get involved in a wide range of mentally and physically challenging activities through the Explorer programme.

We have the opportunity to complete awards including Activity badges, The Chief Scout's Award, The Queen's Scout Award, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, The Explorer Belt Award and Young Leader Awards - many of which are externally recognised and welcomed by potential employers and universities.

Even though the Explorer Scout section is a 'District-based' Section, we still see ourselves as very much a part of Ash Green Scout Group, which is where most of us have grown up and have enjoyed our Scouting. One of our aims is to support the Group in whatever way we can, by joining in Group activities, helping at fundraising events and generally 'being there' when needed. We are encouraged to support the younger sections of the group as 'Young Leaders', where we become part of the Group leadership team and assist with the planning and delivery of the Section programmes. Becoming Young Leaders allows us to give something back to the Group that most of us have been part of for many years and to share doing what we enjoy with the younger sections.

We are proud to be called 'Excelsior' because that is the Latin name for the north European ash tree that grows in New Ash Green - It also means 'to excel' which is what we plan to do.,

Come along and see what fun and adventure you can have!
